The value of a fresh set of eyes or a different perspective is often underestimated in our lives. We are often taught that difference is scary, differing opinions cause discord. But we have also heard the famous definition of insanity.
” Insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.”
We do the same thing over and over again because someone told us that, to get to so and so result you must do so and so thing. There is that destination and here’s the boat that will carry you there.
We feel a lot of pain when we check off all the boxes and do the right thing and don’t reach the destination. Most of us remain in that painful place for too long for our own good. We feel betrayed, we feel anger, we feel vengeful all feelings that weigh us down.
The only way out of the downward spiral is to cut ties with what weighs you down and recognize that the negative outcome is not a verdict or a life sentence:
it is only information that this way doesn’t work.
It’s time to get creative and playful and not get buried under our pain. We leave creativity in the studio, we leave it to the artsy folks, we don’t recognize how immensely important creative problem solving and solution-seeking is in our lives. Remember when we were little and someone said no and if we really wanted something, we went to work, we didn’t take no for an answer.
Easier said than done I know. Spencer Johnson says it much better than me which is why, I highly recommend his funky little book that gets into this in a fun and entertaining way and can change your perspective ever so gently.
Sending you love and light
